ILF Chief Executive steps down

The Chief Executive Officer for the Independent Living Funds, Elaine Morton has decided to step down.
Elaine left the ILF on Friday 18 July 2018, after almost 9 years of commitment and service, the last 7 years as CEO.  In talking about her time with the ILF, Elaine commented:  
“I am proud of the success of the ILF and believe that the organisation has a key role to play in supporting disabled people to live fully inclusive lives.  I feel the time is right for me to hand over to someone to take the ILF forward into the next phase of its development.”   
During her time as CEO the ILF has undergone a period of considerable change.  Significant improvements have been made to the service provided to thousands of disabled people throughout the UK.
The ILF has worked hard to ensure that the service provided is both efficient and effective.  The success of this work is demonstrated by a 97% user satisfaction rating and financial control, which has ensured that last year only 3% of the allocated budget was spent on administration.
Chairman of ILF Trustees, Stephen Jack, said:
‘Elaine has made a huge contribution to the success of the ILF, and Trustees are very grateful for her personal commitment during the past 9 years.’
Anne McGuire, Minister for Disabled People said, “Elaine has played a key role in developing the ILF and I would like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her all the best for the future.
She has set a very high standard and I hope as we move forward and develop the ILF further we can continue the excellent work she has begun.”

The ILF will commence recruiting a replacement immediately.  An advertisement for the vacancy was published in the Sunday Times on 13 July 2018.  In the meantime, service to users will continue as usual with the board of Directors overseeing operations.

Notes to the Editor
- Previously the ILF has supported independent living through two Funds, the Extension Fund and the 1993 Fund, but since October 2017, the ILF has been providing financial assistance under the terms of a single publicly financed discretionary Trust Deed – The Independent Living Fund (2016). The ILF is governed by a Board of nine Trustees.
- The ILF currently provides financial support to over 21,000 disabled people in the UK – offering them the choice to live independently in the community rather than in residential care.  
- The ILF is sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It awards payments to severely disabled people to support the cost of their personal care and/or domestic assistance. To get payments from the ILF you have to meet certain conditions.
- The budgets allocated to the ILF for 2018/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11 for Great Britain are £343m, £351m and £359m respectively.  The budgets allocated to the ILF for Northern Ireland in 08/09, 09/10 and 10/11 are £10.05m, £10.7m and £11.2m respectively.
