If memory foam mattresses seem like a strange concept to you, prepare yourself for the memory foam bath. The ISH Fair in Frankfurt brought together bathrooms with energy and air-conditioning technology earlier this month. Alison Wright of design consultancy EasyLivingHome was at the event – and saw some of the more unusual ideas coming to bathrooms near you in the not-too-distant future. Soft baths are one of the stranger ideas – these are heated up by water in the usual way, then mould themselves to the shape of your body. The baths should be available some time next year, so you can start thinking now about whether the idea appeals to you. If that sounds too strange, there are some slightly less obscure trends taking shape, with the darkest of bathroom suites set to be in demand. “The trend was towards black sanitaryware – both matt and gloss – and black taps,” Wright said. With ISH held only once every two years, it’s a chance for some truly outlandish concepts to go on display, even if not all of them make it to market. But who knows – by the time the 2025 event rolls around, we may all be winding down and scrubbing up in soft, black baths. Follow @AboutUs on Twitter.
